1. It is important to identify a plant or root correctly because it could turn out being fatal if it is misinterpreted. Since some plants can be toxic and cause illness or death, it is important to not ingest these. If you are looking to take care of your body, you need to know if it will have a positive or negative effect of you beforehand.
2. When you are out in nature, you need to realize that there are many habitats and you are not always within the same single on, containing the same plants. When traveling around, you could end up in one of the thousands of environments. The environments can change within states, countries, and continents, so it is important to acknowledge the various plants within each major or minor region. If you are well educated with the various environments, you are more likely to avoid trouble, instead you will be able to identify plants without being unsure.
3. Traveling at different times of the year, during different seasons can have a detrimental affect on looking at which plants can be used for your maladies. Each individual plant has its own time of year that it grows, or blooms the most. Therefore, depending on the time you are traveling, different plants will be blooming. This will affect the availability of perhaps certain flowers you will have access to. If you are traveling in the winter, you won't have access to those plant that flower in the summer. If you are educated on the general blooming times, you are more likely to find what you are looking for. Each plant has its own unique blooming pattern, so it is important to pay close attention.
4. As a scientist, it would be good to form close relations with the people living locally because it is very likely they are comfortable and familiar with their area and its contents. It is likely they have had experiences with the majority of the plants, so they know what is most useful, and what is the most important to avoid. If you are ever in question, you can easily ask someone who lives there. They may also have suggestions and want to help you if you make good relations. Within small towns, the people probably carry pride in their knowledge and are willing to teach.
5. I would not trust my knowledge on these plants to treat my illness or disease. My knowledge is just recently accumulated and not solid enough for me to apply it. Since I know so little, it would be easy for men to make a small misinterpretation that turns out being fatal. If i had something to refer back to, such as a reference text, i would be much more confident because I could back up my thinking with writing I know is true. I would not want to be responsible for any mishaps that hurts someone; instead I would much rather take the safe path and refer back to a text.
